Bayern Munich progressed to the final of theDFB-Pokal cup after a fine 2-0 win over Werder Bremen in the semifinals.

As a result, the club’s hopes of winning the treble remains alive. Manager Pep Guardiola will want to go out on a high after announcing his decision to join Manchester City in the summer. Even though the move was announced several months ago, there has not been a let off in the club’s performances. This is the biggest testament to the professionalism shown by Guardiola. The club are most certainly going to win the Bundesliga with several games remaining.

The real test for Bayern will come in the Champions League. After getting a comfortable win over Benfica in the quarter-finals, the team are facing Atletico Madrid in the semifinals. Diego Simeone’s team just knocked out holders Barcelona from the competition. They have a certain way of playing against teams that enjoy a lot of possession. Guardiola has failed to achieve anything significant in the Champions League and this remains his biggest regret at the Allianz Arena. Under his management, Bayern have been evermore dominant in the German league and have won the league title in record time in the last two years.

Thomas Muller was the heroagainst Werder Bremen after scoring twice.”I’m pleased of course. It’s going to be a great final in Berlin. Bremen beat Gladbach [Borussia Monchengladbach] and [Bayer] Leverkusen in the cup. We knew we’d be up against courageous opponents. We wanted to play more aggressively with our five forwards, but we had enough chances to score more goals. The penalty shouldn’t have been given,” Guardiola said. The club’s next match is against the Hertha Berlin followed by the mammoth clash with Atletico at the Vicente Calderon. Since the second leg is at home, Bayern will feel confident about progression.
